Did you know that together, we can make a big difference in how effectively medications are used in our community? Here at School Lane, we’re passionate about helping patients get the most out of their prescriptions, while also reducing waste within the NHS.
Working Together for a Healthy Future
Every year, a significant amount of unused medication goes to waste. This not only impacts the environment, but it can also lead to shortages of important medications for others who rely on them. It is estimated that across the whole NHS, approximately £300 million is wasted each year! The good news is, with a few simple steps, we can all play a part in reducing waste and smarter medication management!
Maximise Your Medicine Cabinet:
- Be Medication Savvy: Before requesting a repeat prescription, take a quick look at your current supply. This helps ensure you order only what you need right now.
- Order Smart: Your repeat prescription is there for you when you need it. There’s no pressure to tick every box – only order the medications you require currently.
- Unused Meds? Talk to Your Pharmacist: If you’re given medication you no longer need, return it directly to your pharmacist after leaving the pharmacy. This ensures safe disposal and helps the environment.
- Double Check Before You Leave: If you check your medication before you leave the pharmacy and you notice something you do not need, as long as it has not left the premises the pharmacy can return it to stock.
- Notice a Change? Ask! If your medication’s appearance changes, discuss it with your pharmacist
- Talk to Us or your Pharmacist: If you’re having trouble taking your medications or have stopped taking them altogether, let us or your pharmacist know.
At School Lane we have a dedicated Prescription team comprising of a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technicians and Prescription Clerks ready to help you when you have queries or questions about your medication.
Together, we can all make sure that we minimising waste across the NHS. For any questions or support, please don’t hesitate to speak to your usual Pharmacy or to the Prescription Team at School Lane Surgery.
