Update on GP Pre-Bookable Appointment Availability (20/12/24)

At School Lane Surgery, we are dedicated to keeping you informed about the availability of pre-bookable GP appointments. Transparency matters to us, and we’ll continue sharing updates to give you a clear picture of the current situation.

Appointment Availability for Pre-Bookable GP appointments for the Next Four Weeks:

• Face-to-Face Appointments: 69 slots currently available.

• Telephone Appointments: 91 slots currently available.

Note: These numbers are accurate as of today but will change as appointments are booked or released. These figures don’t include same-day appointments managed through our GP on-call hub.

Help Us Help Everyone

Over the last week, 7 face-to-face GP appointments went unused because the patients were unable to attend. That’s 7 opportunities that could have been offered to someone else in need.

As we approach the end of the year, we’re proud to share that School Lane has provided over 79,700 appointments with our clinical team between (01/01/24 and 19/12/24). This includes 35,852 GP appointments (which is almost a 1,000 more than the same period last year) .

While 88% of these appointments were attended, 4,274 GP appointments couldn’t be used due to non-attendance.

If you’re unable to make your appointment, letting us know—even at the last minute—helps us reallocate that time to other patients. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in ensuring we can provide timely care to all who need it!

Pharmacy First: A Great Alternative for Common Conditions

We may suggest that you speak to a Pharmacy for your condition/issue. This is not us not wanting to see you or that we are avoiding work, but rather that pharmacies can provide prescription treatments for many common conditions without the need of seeing a GP. If you want to get better sooner, this is an NHS approved pathway for the following conditions:

• Impetigo (1 year and over)

• Infected insect bites (1 year and over)

• Earache (1 to 17 years)

• Sore throat (5 years and over)

• Sinusitis (12 years and over)

• UTIs (women 16–64 years)

• Shingles (18 years and over)

Not within these age ranges? Don’t worry—pharmacists can still advise on self-care and over-the-counter options, or refer you to a GP if needed.

Our Commitment to You

We’re actively recruiting more staff to expand our capacity. I am happy to update that we have offered two GPs a position and both have accepted. We hope that they will be able to start in early 2025 (depending on HR checks and notice periods).

Your patience and understanding mean the world to us as we work to provide the care you need. Together, we can ensure appointments go further and help as many patients as possible.
