Celebrating Pride Month 2025
June is Pride Month – a time to celebrate the strength, joy, and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a chance for all of us to recognise the incredible contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals, reflect on the history of the movement, and continue working towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
At our practice, we’re proud to stand in support of our LGBTQ+ patients, staff, and wider community – not just this month, but every day.
What is Pride Month?
Pride Month honours the LGBTQ+ community – their identities, their journeys, and their impact. It’s also a time to acknowledge the ongoing challenges many still face and to reaffirm our collective commitment to acceptance, visibility, and equal rights for all.
Events throughout the month shine a light on the importance of inclusion, celebrate progress made, and encourage open conversations around identity, health, and wellbeing.
When is Pride Month 2025?
Pride is celebrated throughout the month of June, from the 1st to the 30th. Across the UK and around the world, people come together for parades, festivals, and community gatherings that are joyful, empowering events that reflect the vibrancy of the LGBTQ+ community.
How You Can Get Involved
There are lots of ways to take part in Pride Month and show your support:
- Join Local Events: Whether it’s a parade, community fair, or online event, participating is a great way to connect and celebrate.
- Learn and Share: Take time to understand the history and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals. Books, films, podcasts, and conversations all help build awareness and empathy.
- Support LGBTQ+ Charities: Donating, volunteering, or simply spreading the word about organisations doing vital work can make a real difference.
- Be an Ally: Advocate for equality, challenge discrimination when you see it, and create safe, welcoming spaces for everyone – both online and in everyday life.
- Show Your Support: Use your social platforms to celebrate Pride Month. Sharing supportive messages and resources can inspire others to learn and get involved too.
A Brief History of Pride
Pride Month traces its roots to the Stonewall Uprising in New York City in June 1969 – a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. The following year, the first Pride marches were held to mark the anniversary.
In the UK, the first official Pride event took place in London in 1972. Since then, Pride has grown into a powerful movement – from bold parades to thoughtful discussions, art, music, and community outreach.
Each year, Pride Month reminds us how far we’ve come – and how much further we can go together.
This June, let’s continue to champion kindness, dignity, and respect for all. Happy Pride Month 2025!
