We wanted to share a national change coming to cervical screening in England that helps reflect the latest clinical evidence and keeps your care up to date.
From 1 July 2025, most women aged 25 to 49 who test negative for HPV (human papillomavirus) meaning they are at very low risk of developing cervical cancer will be invited for cervical screening every 5 years, instead of every 3 years.
This change will be for any appointments on or after 1 July 2025. If your last screening was before this date, your current schedule remains the same.
This change is supported by the UK National Screening Committee and aims to make screening more efficient while maintaining safety. It’s a great step forward in recognising the strength of HPV testing and continuing to protect women’s health.
Cervical screening remains one of the most important ways to prevent cervical cancer.
Please, if you’re due don’t delay or put this off. We know that it may be scary or embarrassing but the staff will all put you at ease. All we want it to make sure you have the screening as early detection saves lives!
