We understand that many patients value seeing the same GP where possible. Continuity can be important, particularly for ongoing or complex health concerns, and we are always happy for patients to request a preferred clinician. All you need to do is let us know.
When contacting the surgery either by phone or through our online form patients are welcome to let us know if they would like to see a specific GP. Our online form includes the question: “Please tell us the name of your preferred clinician”…….If you have a preference, please do tell us, as we will always try to accommodate requests wherever possible.
We are aware that occasionally patients may ask to see an “English-speaking GP”, and we would like to reassure everyone that all GPs working at School Lane Surgery speak English to the standard required to safely practise medicine in the UK. All doctors are registered with the General Medical Council, and if English is not their first language, must complete additional language assessments before they are permitted to practise medicine.
Patients can therefore be assured that every GP at the surgery is fully able to communicate professionally and safely in English.
We do recognise that patients may naturally feel more comfortable with certain communication styles, voices or clinicians they know well, which is completely understandable. In many cases, what patients are looking for is continuity and familiarity, and this is why we encourage patients to request their preferred GP whenever possible.
There will, however, be occasions where this may not always be possible. Not all clinicians work every day, and if the triaging Dr feels that a patient needs to be seen urgently, they may be booked with the clinician who is available on duty that day so that care is not delayed.
We are proud of our diverse clinical team and grateful for the experience, skill and compassion they bring to caring for our patients every day.
Don’t forget that if you want to see a preferred clinician, just let us know. Where there is continuity of care, everybody wins!
