The NHS offers free, non-emergency transport for patients who have a genuine medical need or significant mobility difficulties. This service is available for appointments at both Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and West Suffolk Hospital.
To arrange transport:
- Call the Patient Transport Clinical Assessment and Advice Centre on 0333 240 4100. This line is open 24 hours.
- Have your NHS number, GP surgery details, and your hospital appointment information ready.
- You will be asked a few questions to confirm eligibility.
- Transport can be booked up to two working days in advance of your appointment.
If you do not meet the eligibility criteria for NHS transport, guidance will be provided on alternative options. A voluntary hospital transport service is also available, where patients contribute to mileage costs. Drivers can wait for up to two hours while you attend your appointment. For bookings, call 01603 422 807.
